Insights from Hercules customer experiences

Contract secured through veteran-owned Fidelis Sustainability Distribution.

BATESVILLE, INDIANA – Today, The Morel Company announced that The Hercules Patient Repositioning SystemTM has been added to the US Defense Logistics Agency’s Medical Equipment ECAT, with a contract secured through Fidelis Sustainability Distribution. The ECAT contract is an online source (electronic catalog) for medical and surgical equipment. ECAT acts as one of the preferred purchasing sources for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system.

Hercules was launched in 2014 with the mission to eliminate the number one cause of nursing injuries, manually boosting patients up-in-bed. Traditional boosting methods utilizing slide sheets, draw sheets, overhead patient lifts and inflatable devices are labor intensive. It often takes two to four caregivers up to 10 minutes to perform this unsafe and challenging task, all while disrupting the patient experience and placing the caregiver at risk for injury.

“The beauty and simplicity of Hercules is that it only requires the simple push of a button by one caregiver to boost a patient in less than 10 seconds,” said Bill Hillenbrand, President & CEO of The Morel Company. “This allows a caregiver to boost without the fear of injury while keeping the patient comfortable.”

Hercules is comprised of three components: the drive unit, a mattress cover and a specialized sheet. The innovative nature of Hercules is that it can be adapted to a hospital’s current bed frame and mattress, allowing the bottom bed sheet to operate like a conveyor, effortlessly, safely and comfortably moving the patient up-in-bed.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Fidelis to offer Hercules to VA Healthcare facilities, taking care of the brave men and women who served our country,” said Hillenbrand. “The streamlined ECAT procurement process provides an efficient way for us to meet the needs of veterans and their caretakers.”

The ECAT System is a net-centric ordering, distribution, and payment system providing the DoD and VA healthcare facilities access to multiple manufacturer and distributor commercial catalogs. ECAT has proven to be a successful acquisition strategy that allows customers to browse, compare, and order a wide range of pharmaceutical, laboratory, dental, optical fabrication, and medical/surgical equipment commercial items.

“ECAT is one of the most efficient government procurement vehicles available. With the addition of The Hercules Patient Repositioning System, our end user customers will have access to the only product available that eliminates 100% of caregiver boosting injuries while improving the overall patient experience for our veteran brothers and sisters,” said Dustin Lee, president and veteran principal of Fidelis.
